Flash point is an important concept in fire investigation and fire debris analysis, not only for the classification of flammable liquids, but also for the assessment of hazardous situations. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) defines a liquid with a flash point below 37.8°C (100°F) as flammable and a liquid with a flash point equal to or greater than 37.8°C (100°F) [44].
