Is It a Legal Requirement to Have a Letterbox

Four of us know that the place is dangerous. We`ve seen a lot of near misses over the years – I saw one when I left school earlier this week, after which I called the supervisor again and was told that all 5 boxes had to be in the same place, and again she chose it because it was the safest place, but she would try Go Out to watch it again. Our postman sent a message saying he can`t deliver the mail because we have a few flowers growing around them that are only about 6 inches above the ground. I don`t understand, and he has been our regular factor for the last 4 years and now it`s a problem? He told my wife that it was a security issue but wouldn`t say in what capacity and I couldn`t find any other information, I mean I could understand if my address was blocked or if it couldn`t deliver, because if of, but what gives? Is the provision of a mailbox in the front door required by law in the UK? After all, simple slots aren`t that pretty and why settle for that when there are so many aesthetically pleasing mailbox styles and shapes to choose from? I read all the comments about the mailboxes. However, no one approached the mailboxes broken by the snowplow. The State Hwy Office claims my box is installed on State Hwy aisle and apologizes, but we won`t fix it. This means that the plow driver can break my box as many times as he wants, and I have to replace it out of my bag. I think if the driver cannot control his plow, he should be fired. So what can be done in this case? In 1923, it became mandatory to have a mailbox to ensure that Royal Mail could deliver mail to any household in the UK. At that time, most UK gateways had a simple slot with a flap in their door. Here, mail could be delivered every morning. However, these simple slots are not really the best option on the market anymore. There are many modern mailboxes for you to choose from, which are much more practical and decorative.

I share a post but no mailbox with the house opposite. The pole is broken and we currently have it in a cement bucket. If they are not willing to help with the cost of mail to hold 2 mailboxes, can I just replace them with a post office to hold this one? Mail containing 2 mailboxes are much more expensive DVLA are not even consistent in this requirement itself. You make a fuss because you have to give them new addresses when you move, and it`s a criminal offense not to tell them. But if you`re moving overseas, they have no way of capturing foreign addresses, so they explicitly state that they don`t need to be contacted. There is also no legal obligation to exchange a driving licence in the new country of residence in the EU for a licence. So I have a valid UK driving licence with a UK address that is five years late and I can`t contact me under the DVLA! The only requirement to upgrade to a new driver`s license in the new country is in case of traffic violations requiring points. Have you ever wondered if there are any mailbox rules and regulations you need to follow? Heatlie Letterboxes has you covered! Hi, I have a neighbor across the street whose address is actually Main Street, and I`m on the corner of Patrica and Main, his driveway is right across from mine, He placed his mailbox just behind my driveway on an 8-inch concrete wooden pole and placed a sting on the pole that protrudes from the mailbox just below. So if we get out of my driveway and hit the mailbox, the pick will damage my vehicle!! Is it legal and why doesn`t his box have to be on the main street where the address is? Any input would be appreciated. I learned this because I was a travel agent and needed to have airline tickets delivered to different clients. We have NEVER left airline tickets in the customer`s mailboxes after an agent called the postmaster and informed them that it was a federal crime to throw ANY item into a mailbox that was not a USPS “approved” item delivered by a USPS employee! Our neighbors have all their mailboxes on a pole in front of our empty lot. There are currently five mailboxes at the post office.

We are building a house on this property and want to remove these mailboxes. Do we need permission from the postmaster to change the location of these boxes so that they are not on our property? Are there any regulations I can refer to? 2. A certificate purportedly signed by the Minister of Posts, a secretary or assistant secretary of the post office stating that a mailbox or container is or has been made available with the authorization or under the authority of the Minister of Post Office for the purpose of receiving postal parcels or any of them shall be considered in any legal proceeding as evidence of the facts indicated in the certificate. We built a house in 1985. It is located in a cul-de-sac that we share with five other houses. The postmaster at the time ordered us to set up our mailboxes in a row on the right side of the street when we got out of the cul-de-sac. This places mailboxes across the street, away from our residence and about 200 feet from our car. The six boxes are about 1 1/2 feet apart. They are all similar in size, but mounted on different poles. Ours is on a 1 1/4 inch steel pole.

The bottom of the mailbox is 43 inches above the ground. The front of the mailbox is 7 inches from where the curb swab hits the grass. It was approved by the postmaster during the initial installation. I have maintained our mailbox over the years, but I have never changed the structure or location. Other families came and went. Some of the other mailboxes have been replaced. A few months ago, our (new) carrier started telling us in writing that our mailbox is too far from the road. The messages ask us to move our mailbox closer to the road to adapt to others on the line.

Ours is currently about 4-6 inches further from the road than the others. Last week, we received absolutely no mail, which is very unusual. I`m sure they stopped the delivery. I will be at the post office tomorrow to discuss it with them. I am just wondering what you think. I would like to mention that I had to retire a few years ago because of a physical or health disability. Mobility has become a big problem. (I retired after five years as a firefighter and 35 years as a law enforcement officer.) This could also be a good time to address the issue of moving our mailbox from the cluster to a more convenient location for my home. What do you think? We have had a mailbox for over 12 years. For some reason, one day, a new letter carrier decided to put a small envelope of parcels in the back of my house on a door that is never used.

We have two verandas that are used – one clearly indicates to use the other. Is it legally permissible for the letter carrier not to use the mailbox and to put the mail elsewhere? Yes – and we have the strange concept of drive-in banks on this side of the pond that have these systems to transfer things between the vehicle and the bank itself. (This whole idea still sounds incredibly stupid, and I always prefer to come in and talk to a human face to face 🙂 Hi Doreen, thank you for your inquiry. You should have no problem replacing the boxes and receiving your regular U.S. mail as long as they are installed in the same place. Make sure the inbox area or mail delivery point on the box itself is between 41″ and 45″ above the road surface and between 6 and 8 inches from the side of the road! Good luck with your installation, more details about USPS postal regulations can be found on their website, but we encourage you to contact your local post office if you have detailed questions. Is it legal to mount a mailbox on a telephone pole? My neighbor did this and her mailbox is now 2 or 3 feet behind me and other neighbors And when I blew my box of snow, these people push the snow from their driveway in front of my mailbox!! Hi TJ, this is not good. I know nothing about the laws, but I would definitely contact both the complex and the manufacturer of the box. Our MailBoss locks have over 1500 unique key patterns/numbers.

If it is one of our boxes, please contact us at the following address: Info@mailboss.com and we will be happy to sort you out! However, we don`t make bundled boxes (usually what you can find in shared apartments), so it`s unlikely that we`re the manufacturer of your box. Good luck! So I just put my mailbox on the street side of my house, as the postman would come, as a friend told me. My neighbor says it`s on his property but it`s only 2 feet from my driveway, is it legal to keep it there or should I take it to the other side? I have a question about the situation of our mailbox. Our mailbox is on another street. The mailboxes are located on a very narrow road at the foot of a hill and many wooden trucks are on this road. It is very difficult to plough the mailboxes because of the hills and all the traffic.
