When you complete and submit the online application, you will receive a confirmation email indicating that we have received your application. In some cases, you will receive a call from one of the lawyers to learn more about your organization or business. Some applicants may not be ready for legal services, so we may ask you to reapply after you have developed your plans. Students attending this clinic represent children, parents or the Department of Health and Social Services in legal proceedings. Each team of students has a mix of child protection cases representing each of the three main roles, allowing them to see and understand the role of the lawyer from different angles and with different concerns and interests. Clinical faculty work closely with student advocates every step of the way to ensure high-quality representation. On the criminal side, students represent clients accused of misdemeanours, from indictment to trial. Students also deal with some post-verdict issues in serious crimes. The clinic`s record sometimes includes class actions, first impression issues, and other impact litigation. Sometimes cases have costs, such as court fees, that clients must pay if they can. In a small number of cases where the client receives a cash reward, they may be asked to pay a small percentage of the money as fees to the clinic, which goes into the general fund of the law school. Neither student lawyers nor faculty supervisors receive remuneration from clients, except for a “thank you.” If you are interested in the clinic`s services, you can fill out our online application or call our office in Ann Arbor (see above). Michigan Law has long been known for its distinctive educational blend of leading scholarly and legal practice. In today`s competitive environment, it is more important than ever for new graduates to get started in the practice of law. We are so committed to this formative experience that we guarantee every student at least one high school clinic, many of which take more.

Three clinical law schools, which are specialists in children`s law, each mentor up to eight students and act as counsellors, but the clinic`s students make decisions about their cases. With this responsibility, students are carefully prepared for all aspects of their clients` representation, for their judicial experience and to work in the field of child advocacy. The law school`s commitment to a global perspective also permeates the clinics, providing students with experience in international politics and cross-border transactions. At the Human Trafficking Clinic, students work with legislators and international human rights organizations to combat modern slavery. The International Transactions Clinic, which represents clients in Tajikistan, Russia, Europe, Africa and the United States, encourages students to become lawyers for international transactions by providing students with hands-on experience, including preparing cross-border investment documents and advising clients on multinational compliance. Founded in the late 1960s, CCLC is Michigan Law`s first and oldest clinic.
